Faculty

This is a group of related departments in some universities, or the people who work in them. It’s like the different Houses in Hogwarts. They have their own acronyms, colours, departments and other distinguishing characteristics. See them here https://sta.uwi.edu/academics

Matriculation/Matriculation Requirements

Matriculation means that you register formally as a student at a university, or the academic requirements necessary for admission to a course/programme. Your matriculation requirements are the academic requirements to get into UWI. Simple right?

These are the Basic Matriculation Requirements for ALL Undergraduate Applicants:

  • Passes in at least five subjects at CXC (CSEC)/GCE O-Level BCCSE or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • At least two subjects at the GCE A-Level or CXC (CAPE) Unit I and Unit II or equivalent (this excludes Communication Studies and Caribbean Studies)
  • Successful completion of a first degree, associate degree, diploma, certificate from approved tertiary institutions
  • Overall professional and/or academic achievements for persons over age 21, who do not fall within the categories above

If you don’t have the above qualifications, still apply! Your application will be considered, and you should shoot your shot. You never know…

shoot-your-shot-2

Because of COVID-19, the Revised Matriculation Requirements have been renewed for the 2021/2022 Academic Year:

  • A waiver of the CAPE Unit I/ Unit II requirement for matriculation to The University
  • The waiver will allow applicants who have the requisite CSEC subjects to qualify for normal matriculation to The UWI provided that they:
    • have passed at grades 1-4*, a minimum of two CAPE subjects either at Unit I or II and are currently registered for either CAPE Unit I or II.

*Faculty specific conditions apply

Ummm, re-read the above, it’s a big deal. This means if you’ve completed CAPE Unit 1 and registered for CAPE Unit II, you can apply to UWI!!!

Just keep in mind that there are faculty restrictions and make sure you know them here.
